Video surveillance will increase the safety of subway passengers

Video surveillance in the Moscow MetroA new video surveillance system is being introduced in the Moscow Metro, capable of performing certain operations without human intervention. In particular, it will be able to isolate individual elements from the flow of people, analyze faces, and identify situations that are potentially dangerous. Next, a signal will be given to the duty officer, who will already take appropriate action.

The new product was announced by Ivan Ostashko, head of the Moscow Metro's External Relations Service. He emphasized that the system would become truly intelligent, which would make it possible to protect subway passengers. The work on its implementation is divided into several stages. The first one will last until the end of 2016, during which time there will be an increase in control over the situation in the subway. The facial recognition feature is planned to be enabled next year.

According to Ostashko, the innovations are designed to reduce the so—called human factor - the operator is unable to closely monitor video from dozens of cameras 24 hours a day. The electronic system is able to cope with this. In addition, it will be possible to reduce costs for ensuring security — it will now require fewer employees.
