The Olympics in Rio de Janeiro were filmed from a hot air balloon
New technologies help to significantly simplify our lives and give us new experiences. The events at the last Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro were filmed using a variety of high-quality cameras located at key points of each sports complex. In addition to them, installations placed on balloons hovering over the city were used. The original solution allowed for long hours to shoot such plans, which previously could only be obtained from a helicopter.
The project cost the organizers $8 million, but it was worth it. The contractor was Altave company from Brazil, which worked directly with the Ministry of Justice of the country. The specialists managed to lift the balloons to a height of 200 meters above the ground. Each of them was equipped with a system of 13 cameras with a resolution of 13 megapixels. The system took 3 pictures of the surrounding area per second. The lenses were mostly set on the streets of Rio itself, covering an area of about 40 kilometers. The purpose of the work is to organize order and control what is happening in the city, which is flooded with many athletes and spectators from all over the world. The information from the cameras was transferred to a large archive and could be extracted from there at any time. This helped to identify the causes of minor incidents in a short time and take timely action.
