Private camcorders are registered

An unusual program started this month in the city of Carrollton (Texas, USA). The police department asked residents of the village to register their cameras. This is completely voluntary and aims to reduce crime.

The essence of the idea is to form a certain base at which all points on which the cameras are installed will be indicated. If an offense is committed in the area, the police will know which cameras could potentially record the incident. Their owners will receive an offer to provide a voluntary entry.

It is only about street camcorders. Installed on premises or in a fenced area, no one is interested. However, for a city with a population of 120 thousand people, such support will be sufficient to reduce the number of unsolved crimes. Having a criminal’s photo on hand will catch him faster, and recording the fact of the crime will simplify the proof of his guilt.

The police supplemented the announcements of the start of the camera registration program with photographs of two people. They were charged with murder after they were found using video surveillance cameras.

Similar programs are carried out in other places in the United States. It is very likely that other countries will follow this example, although there are many skeptics. They believe that more attention should be paid to organizing a state monitoring network and crime prevention measures.
